Alfred set to compete for first time since Paris Olympics

ZURICH, Switzerland – St Lucian Olympic champion Julien Alfred will take to the track for the first time in over a month when she competes at the 14th Weltklasse Zurich League on Thursday in Switzerland.

In what is expected to be a very competitive women’s 100 metres event, Alfred will face off against Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA, Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith of Cote d’Ivoire and Jamaica’s Tia Clayton.

The 23-year-old Alfred has not competed since winning gold in the 100 metres and silver in the 200 metres at the Paris Olympics.

Also in the line-up will be Great Britain’s Diana Asher-Smith, who is coming off a win at the Lausanne Diamond League, where she posted a season’s best 10.88.

Several other Jamaican athletes are also down to take part in the event, which is the last opportunity for athletes to earn points and qualify for the series final in Brussels on September 13-14.

Diamond League leader Rushell Clayton, Andrenette Knight, Janieve Russell, and Olympic Games finalist Shiann Salmon, who have all booked their final spots for Brussels, are down to run in the women’s 400m hurdles.

With world leader Ackera Nugent taking a break before the grand final, world champion Danielle Williams will be the lone Jamaican in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Rasheed Broadbell, who copped bronze at the Paris Olympics, will renew his rivalry with American Grant Holloway in the men’s 110-metre hurdles along with compatriot Hansle Parchment, and Roshawn Clarke will compete in the men’s 400-metre hurdles.
