Tobago police are searching for two men who allegedly assaulted and robbed an 81-year-old man.

The victim told investigators that around 3:20 pm on Sunday he entered a gold coloured Nissan Almera at Milford Road, Bon Accord in the vicinity of Fortune Plaza and asked to be taken to Chef and BBQ Restaurant.

The driver upon reaching the vicinity of Pigeon Point junction proceeded along the Pigeon Point Road, instead of taking the victim to his location.

When the victim inquired what was going on  he was informed that they were going to collect the front seat passengers’ cell phone nearby.

The driver continued driving and stopped along Silk Cotton Trace, Bon Accord, when the front seat passenger exited the vehicle and open the left back door.

The suspect then began assaulting the 81-year-old man and robbed him of jewellery valued at around $30,000.

The suspect then pulled the victim out of the car and threw him to the ground and began to kick him and beat him about his body.

He became fearful for his life and began screaming for help.

At the same time, a police vehicle was passing in the area.

The assailant, upon seeing the police vehicle escaped, running through a bushy area, while the driver sped away.

The officers stopped to render assistance, and checks were made for the suspects with no success.

The victim was then taken to the Scarborough General Hospital for treatment.

W-Cpl Taylor and a team of officers from the Tobago Division responded to the report and are continuing enquiries.

More on this as it becomes available.
