CAPTAIN Aubrey David has spoken of his Soca Warriors all having the same mission, as Trinidad and Tobago’s senior men’s footballers seek a positive result from their opening 2024-2025 CONCACAF Nations League match in Central America.
The Soca Warriors face Honduras in their opening League A game of the Nations League at the Estadio Nacional Chelato Ucles in Tegucigalpa from 10 p.m.—one of two matches to be played in quick succession. On returning home, T&T host French Guiana at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, in Tobago, next Tuesday, from 7 p.m.
T&T have always had difficulty getting good results from trips to Honduras in the past, with just one win, coming in a 2001 World Cup qualifier under Brazilian coach Rene Simoes. Experienced 33-year-old defender and Guatemala-based T&T captain David, will be banking on his experience in Central and South America, having played with clubs in Costa Rica, Guatemala and Ecuador.
Having experienced the hostility of football crowds in the Americas, David relayed to his T&T team-mates exactly what to expect.
“They (Honduras) are at home. They’re going to be coming. They’re going to come out with everything. We know the crowd is going to be on their side” David predicted to TTFA Media. “So I think we just need to stay concentrated and need to stay focused, because as long as we continue to do our game plan and keep them out, it’s going to be more pressure for them.”
The captain also spoke of his players giving everything on the pitch.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game. We just need to stick together and be united and we can get our job done.”
David expects that all his Soca Warriors will be committed to the cause, regardless of the difficulty.
“Everybody come with the same mission, the same goals,” he stated. “We know what we in for, and everybody is up for the task.” Raising his hand up to answer his captain’s call is Andre Raymond, the Scotland-based St Johnson left-defender.
“Firstly, we want to start the Nations League campaign on the right foot and I think the boys are prepared to give everything on the field and come out with the three points,” Raymond said.
He added, “I think we have built a really good chemistry, this group of boys, and once the chemistry is there on the pitch and off the pitch, we can do good things.”
