Maduro criticizes Colombian foreign minister for talking about Venezuela

  • Sep, Fri, 2024

“You will not see me or my foreign minister speaking about Colombia’s internal affairs. We are facilitators.” This is what Nicolás Maduro said to criticize the Colombian foreign minister’s position regarding Venezuela. He took the opportunity to tell President Gustavo Petro that he would like to be part of the peace process in Colombia.

Maduro’s attack occurred the same week that Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo, in a conversation with the media, spoke about the possibility of a meeting between the presidents of Colombia, Brazil and Mexico with Maduro to address the situation in Venezuela.

Colombia’s positionaccording to recent statements by its foreign minister, is to build bridges to achieve “fundamental solutions” in Venezuela, while, like Brazil, it insists on the need to publish the disaggregated electoral results that confirm Maduro’s victory.

The crisis in Venezuela worsened on Monday with the arrest warrant requested by the Prosecutor’s Office against the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, an ally of María Corina Machado, the opposition leader.

Despite the “validation” of the result by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), in which the majority of its judges are close to Chavez, Lula and Petro believe that only the disclosure of the results will give “credibility” to the process.
