Family of murdered PH driver: Details of shooting not adding up

Relatives of the man who was killed while at a wake in Valencia on Saturday night, are demanding answers as to what really happened. They have dismissed reports of how the incident occurred.

David Best, 46, of Cumaca Road, Valencia, was allegedly killed around midnight on August 18, after two gunmen reportedly emerged from some bushes and opened fire on a group at the wake held at Kangalee Street, Valencia.

Speaking with reporters at the Forensic Science Centre, St James on Monday, Best’s relatives said, “It is not adding up.”

Relatives said they were not satisfied with the explanation by police, as well as, those who had been present at the wake. One relative said the PH taxi driver was a hard-working person who did not deserve the death he had received.

Offering his own theory as to what had transpired, the relative struggled to make sense of the claim that Best had been shot in the face and upper body by gunmen.

He argued that after visiting the scene in the wee hours on Sunday and viewing the body, the family believed Best had been shot by someone who had been very close to him.

The relative said no one who had been present at the wake including the man who Best had been hired to take there, had even offered sympathies on his death.

The grieving man sought to piece together how the shooting would have happened as he questioned why other people who were reportedly nearby, had not suffered any life-threatening injuries and had walked away with only flesh wounds.

Regarding the crime situation, the relative urged citizens, “Be careful who you associate with.”

He said there had been too many instances of innocent people being killed because of who they associated with.

“People see you with a certain group and they classify you there one time,” he said, adding, “You don’t hadda be doing what them doing but because you liming with them at the time, whatever going and happen with them…you could end up being a liability with them.”

He said, “I feel that is the case.”
