Police arrest two, seize four firearms, ammo, narcotics

Police have arrested two men and seized firearms, ammunition, and a quantity of narcotics during exercises conducted in various divisions over the past 48 hours.

In a media release, the TTPS said at approximately 6 am on 8th September 2024, PCs Jugoon, Butkoon, Williams, and Noyan were on mobile patrol near the corner of Sutton Street and Freeling Street, San Fernando, when they observed a man acting suspiciously. 

Upon looking in the direction of the police vehicle, the man threw an object into an empty lot. The officers were able to apprehend the man and upon searching where he threw the object, reportedly found it was a .38 SPL Revolver with four rounds of .38 ammunition. 

The firearm was seized, and the man, from La Resource Road, Rambert Village, was arrested. Additionally, between 1:30 pm and 4 pm on 7th September 2024, officers of the North Eastern Division Gang and Intelligence Unit conducted an intelligence-led exercise. Acting on information, officers proceeded to McCarthy Street, Santa Cruz, where they conducted a search and found a silver Smith and Wesson firearm, fitted with a magazine containing ten rounds of .40 calibre ammunition. 
The item was seized, and PC Holder is continuing enquiries. 

Earlier, at approximately 11:30 am in the South Western Division, officers of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) were on exercise in the Fyzabad district when they received information. 
The team proceeded to Joseph Street, John Jules Trace, where they entered an abandoned structure in an overgrown, bushy area, 17 feet off the roadway. 

There, they found a black garbage bag containing a shotgun. 
The item was seized, and PC Jagoo is continuing enquiries. 
Also during the exercise, while on mobile patrol near Red Brick Trace Extension No.3, South Oropouche, officers observed a man standing next to a refrigerator, who looked in their direction and began to run. 
The officers chased the man into a small concrete structure where he was cornered. 

Upon searching the refrigerator, they discovered two clear plastic bags containing 27.2 grams of cocaine. 
The 22-year-old man, from Red Brick Trace, South Oropouche, was arrested and conveyed to the Fyzabad Police Station, where he is assisting officers with enquiries. 
Additionally, a roving exercise was conducted between 10 am and 2 pm in the Northern Division. 

Acting on information, a party of officers proceeded to a bushy area in Brazil Lome Trace, Brazil. There, they searched and found a shotgun wrapped in plastic under a pile of galvanise sheets. 
The firearm was seized, and PC Carter is continuing enquiries.
