Guanipa assured that Edmundo González is the president-elect even in Madrid

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa reiterated this Sunday that Edmundo González Urrutia is the “president-elect” whether in Venezuela or Madrid. This is after the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) left the country for Spain after requesting asylum.

“That an elected president has to be forced to request political asylum is further proof that We fight against a disgraceful and degrading dictatorship«. This was stated by Guanipa through X, despite the fact that the official result of the elections gave reelection to Nicolás Maduro, a victory questioned inside and outside the country.

What Guanipa said about the departure of Edmundo González

In response, the opposition leader said that the election result “was violated” by Maduro and the National Electoral Council (CNE), and then – he said – “the worst repression began.” At the same time, he urged “to continue fighting so that the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people, exercised through the vote, is respected.”

The PUD published on a website “83.5%” of the minutes collected by witnesses and members of the table in the presidential elections of July 28. What – they claim – demonstrates the victory of González Urrutia, who is subject to an arrest warrant, accused by the Prosecutor’s Office of several crimes related to the publication of these documents.

“We all know the relentless persecution carried out by the Maduro dictatorship, which ended with an arrest warrant for the execution of crimes that were committed by Maduro and his accomplices,” said Guanipa.

Earlier, the opposition leader and main supporter of the PUD candidate, María Corina Machado, stated that will continue fighting from Venezuela while González Urrutia will do so “from outside.”

Meanwhile, the leader of the anti-Chavez bloc arrived in Madrid on Sunday accompanied by his wife, Mercedes de González, after flying on a plane of the Spanish Air Force, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this country.

On Saturday, Venezuela’s Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez reported that the opposition leader left Venezuela with a safe-conduct pass granted by the government “for the sake of political peace and tranquility.”
