The CN Tower and Toronto Sign in Canada glowed in red, white and black and Nathan Phillips Square, ceremonially renamed “Independence Square” as Trinbagonians and honorary Trinbagonians celebrated on September 7 and 8, 2024.

Held under the auspices of the Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Toronto, the Trinbago Toronto Festival, dubbed “the sweetest lime of the summer”, is a celebration of the culture, history, and impact of the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora in Canada. The event was co-presented by Visit Trinidad and Tobago Beyond. Other event partners included Caribbean Airlines Ltd., Carib Brewery and, for the first time this year, the National Carnival Commission.

Festival-goers were treated to an electrifying lineup of performances featuring Mical Teja, Andre Donawa, and KI, who energized the crowd alongside traditional Carnival characters that participated courtesy of the NCC. The diverse entertainment roster included steelpan music, tassa and African drumming, Indian and Folk dance, limbo, chutney and calypso, reflecting the vibrant cultural mosaic of Trinidad and Tobago. The event also featured a food festival element that allowed attendees to savour a wide array of Trinidadian and Tobagonian culinary delights.

Acting Consul General Tracey Ramsubagh-Mannette shared, “This event is a humble attempt to bring all of the things that make us extraordinary and exceptional into one space, for one weekend, in the heart of downtown Toronto, and to proudly tell the story of who we are, what we have created and how much we have given the world. We have been happy to support this event since 2022, since it is built on the belief that members of our diaspora are our most powerful and persuasive Ambassadors, not just for our country’s tourism product, but for all of our cultural and creative assets.
