Biagio Pilieri’s wife: “We have not had any contact”
Maria Livia Vasile, wife of the national coordinator of Convergencia, Biagio Pilierihe said on Tuesday Concern for opposition leaderwho was arrested on August 28.
He noted that since the moment of arrestNeither Pilieri’s family nor his lawyers have been able to contact him.
She stressed that they have no information about her husband’s condition or his state of health.
“We are very worried because we do not know how he is. Biagio Pilieri has a delicate health condition that includes problems with hypertension and digestive disorders, among others.”said.
He referred to the peaceful and committed nature of Pilieri with his work. “He is an honorable and responsible person. We do not understand the reasons why he has been deprived of his freedom,” he said.
He reiterated that the defense was unable to access the charges against him. “We are told that these are the same charges for which other opponents are detained”he indicated.
“We hope that the precautionary measures will be implemented so that he and the other political prisoners will be released,” Vasile said.
Biagio Pilieri: charged with “treason and terrorism”
On September 5, Pilieri’s wife reported that the opposition leader was brought before a court on August 30 without being accompanied by his trusted lawyers.
He said that the Prosecutor’s Office accused Pilieri, who receives assistance from a public defender, ofand conspiracy, criminal association, incitement to hatred, terrorism and treason.
He pointed out that the leader spent more than a week without being able to communicate with his family or private defense, and demanded due respect for the Articles 44, 45 and 49 of the Constitution.
