Maduro allowed González to leave for Spain without his daughter and grandchildren

The agreement by which the government of Nicolás Maduro agreed to issue a safe-conduct pass for Edmundo González to leave the official Spanish residence towards Maiquetíabound for Madrid, did not include the rest of his family.

«“Hopefully in the future they can get out,” a source close to the opposition presidential candidate told the newspaper Such and Such.

González left Venezuela on September 8 after several days as a refugee in the Embassy of Spain in Caracasseeking protection while requesting political asylum from the Spanish government, which was granted.

The former diplomat left the country on a Spanish Air Force plane after receiving safe conduct, which allowed him to travel with Mercedes López, his wife, and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío.

Already in Madrid, at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base, for official use, the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform was received by the Secretary of State for Ibero-America and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Susana Sumelzo, and by Carolina Gonzalezher youngest daughter, who has lived in Madrid for a decade.

However, Mariana González, his other daughter, remains in Caracas, along with her husband Rafael and their children, the grandchildren of the former diplomat, whom the government did not include in the agreement.
