Venezuelan opponents will march on Wednesday to the Brazilian Embassy in Caracas to ask Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to intercede for each of the political prisoners in the country.

The march is scheduled for 10:00 am, according to the call of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which will also reiterate its rejection of the controversial reelection of Nicolás Maduro in the elections of July 28 and will defend the victory that – it claims – was obtained by its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia, exiled since Sunday in Spain.

The opposition bloc is thus back on the streets two weeks after holding a worldwide demonstration on August 28 against the fraud it claims occurred in the presidential elections and against a Supreme Court decision that validated Maduro’s victory, announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE) based on results that are still unknown in detail.

Besides, Wednesday’s mobilization will take place a few days after González Urrutia left Venezuelawhere he says he suffered political and judicial persecution after the elections.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado, the main supporter of the PUD candidate, said on Monday that, despite the departure of González Urrutia from Venezuela, the details of which will be revealed in due time, the agenda and strategy of the majority anti-Chavez movement remain the same and will be developed with intelligence, resilience, audacity and prudence.

The former deputy also insists that the attempted coup against popular sovereignty that she says the government is carrying out will not come to fruition, and González Urrutia will be sworn in for the next presidential term.

Last week, the Brazilian president reiterated that he does not recognize the results of the elections and urged his Venezuelan counterpart to prove that he won the elections.
