A 46-year-old man was left critically injured following a violent altercation at an apartment in Mt. Lambert, in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 2:46 am when a neighbour was awakened by the sounds of arguing and objects being thrown in a nearby apartment at First Avenue.

The informant, a resident in the same building, approached the apartment and noticed that while the burglar proofing was locked, the front door was slightly open. Inside, he saw a woman, covered in blood, walking through the apartment. After his attempts to communicate with her went unanswered, he contacted the police.

Upon arrival, police officers found the victim lying on the ground, severely beaten, while the woman continued to strike him with a rolling pin. The officers intervened, ordering her to stop, and she eventually complied. The suspect then threw the key to the burglar proofing out of the window, allowing the officers to enter the apartment.

Once inside, they found the suspect attempting to harm herself by jumping from a stool with a sheet tied around her neck.

First responders provided aid to both the victim and suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and transported for medical attention.

She claimed the victim of El Socorro had infected her with an STD.  However, she appeared disoriented, showing signs of mental health issues.

The victim, who sustained severe head injuries, was treated by EMTs at the scene before being transported to Mt. Hope Hospital.

He remains unconscious and in critical, but stable, condition.
