Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado on Wednesday described another great victory that the The Spanish Congress has recognized the standard-bearer of anti-Chavezism, Edmundo González Urrutia -now living in asylum in the European country-, as president-elect of the elections of July 28, whose official result gave victory to Nicolás Maduro.
“Today we have obtained another great victory. We are moving forward! We Venezuelans thank each and every one of the deputies from the different parties who voted in favor of popular sovereignty, democracy, truth and freedom” in Venezuela, Machado said through X.

Congress of Spain recognizes Edmundo González as president
The Popular Party (PP), the leader of the Spanish opposition, pushed through this proposal to recognise González Urrutia with 177 votes, coming from the right and from nationalist groups, such as the Basques, usual allies of the socialists, who have been left in a minority with their left-wing partners.

The claim of fraudulent elections is supported by the largest opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), according to the publication of 83.5% of the electoral records on a website that – it insists – demonstrates González Urrutia’s victory, documents that the government considers false.
The flag bearer of the majority opposition arrived in Madrid on September 8 after requesting asylum because he believed he was suffering political and judicial persecution in Venezuela.
