The decomposing bodies of Sarah Smith, 33, and her two young children, a son named Genuine and daughter, Phoenix, were discovered in a decommissioned tank owned by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) in Parlatuvier, Tobago on Wednesday.

Smith, who owned a small shop not far from where she and her children were found, was reported missing by her mother on September 2.

Members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team led by Captain Vallence Rambharat were among the search party that made the heartbreaking discovery.

WASA assured that the incident has in no way compromised the quality of the water provided, since the storage tank and facility has been decommissioned for more than three years.

The Authority said while landscaping works and maintenance are routinely done, checks on the tank are no longer carried out, due to its decommissioned status.

WASA extended condolences to those affected by the tragic event and said it’s fully cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing investigations.
