Police said two men were killed in a police-involved shooting in Tobago.

In an update, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the men were armed with firearms.

According to police reports, at approximately 6:08 pm on September 16, 2024, a team of officers attached to Shirvan Road Police Station intelligence team and the Criminal Investigations Department received information regarding armed men wanted in connection with reports of several shootings. In response, a party of officers proceeded to a guest house located in Sou Sou Lands.

Upon arrival, the team entered the apartment and identified themselves as police officers, following which two men, armed with firearms, pointed their weapons in the direction of the officers.

The officers believed their lives to be “in imminent danger” and, in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, fired their weapons in the direction of the men, injuring both.

The officers retrieved the firearms and immediately rendered aid to the men. Both men were conveyed to the Scarborough General Hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police said two firearms, a AR-15 rifle with 29 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and a revolver with four rounds of .38 ammunition were seized.
