3 million children are out of the school system in Venezuela
The Venezuelan Federation of Teachers warns that Almost 3 million children in Venezuela are outside the school system. This data, based on recent studies, highlights an educational crisis that seriously affects the country’s development.
The union reaffirmed, through an alarming statement, that the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year is marred by persistent problems reported for years. Among these, it points out the poor infrastructure of a large percentage of educational centers, the lack of pedagogical and technological resources and low teacher salaries.
In a context like this, they face a continuing crisis due to the alleged lack of political will of the national Executive to dignify the teaching profession. The FVM also points out that educators are demotivated, demoralized and worried due to their employment and financial situation.
He also claims that the failure of the Ministry of Education to fulfil its contractual commitments aggravates the situation and violates the Constitution.
Irregularities in the School Feeding Program
The food crisis that Venezuelans are experiencing also affects education.
The FVM denounces that The School Feeding Program is deficient, and where it is provided it is of very low quality.
The diet, based mainly on carbohydrates, has catastrophic effects on school-age children, who are in full physical, psychological and cognitive development, he warns.
Another serious problem mentioned by the union is the suspension of a significant number of teachers, who are outside the system and without a salary. This action, he says, violates constitutional principles that guarantee due process, the right to defense and job stability.
Given this situation, The federation demands the immediate restoration of wages these workers and the signing of a collective agreement that will allow workers in the education sector to be granted a fair salary and decent living and working conditions.
