The Police Service is advising motorists to take the necessary steps to ensure that their vehicles are compliant with the regulations concerning window tints.

The TTPS’ Road Safety Coordinator Sgt. Brent Batson advises all motorists to familiarise themselves with the law, as police officers will no longer be guided by their personal judgement—but by technology.

“On your front windscreen, you are allowed 70% VLT or Visible Light Transmission,” Sgt Batson said.  “You are allowed a 6-inch anti-glare band—what we call the visor strip—6-inches at 35%.  The driver side and front passenger side windows are at 35%, and to the rear [the tint on those windows] is 20%.”

However, Sgt Batson assures motorists with special needs that they can apply for an exemption to the rule,

“If the tint levels are not meeting your requirements or you have special needs, there is a process to go through for applications to be made to the Transport Commissioner, to authorise any variations for non-compliance,” he explained.

Sgt. Batson was a guest on today’s edition of CNC3’s The Morning Brew show.
