Adverse weather alert discontinued, but heavy rains still expected today

The Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert has been discontinued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), and at present, the country’s alert status is at Green.

The Met Service stood down the Yellow Level alert at 10:10 am today, explaining in an advisory:

“The possibility for impactful weather has decreased though there still exists a 40-60% (medium) chance of a few heavy showers or isolated thunderstorms favouring, but not limited to, hilly and western areas. Likely localized impacts include street flooding in some areas for a short period of time. Gusty winds also can occur in heavy showers and thunderstorms.”

Forecasters say today’s hot and sunny conditions will be interrupted by a few cloudy spells with showers at times, and some of those showers could be heavy and thundery.

Although the national alert status remains at Green for now, the Met Service advisory is encouraging citizens to remain vigilant.

“Gusty winds and street/flash flooding may occur near heavy showers or thunderstorms,” the advisory notes.  “Continue to monitor weather conditions and the conditions of your surroundings.”
