Adverse weather alert issued as tropical wave approaches
Watch out for showers, strong winds and possible thunderstorms from Thursday evening as an Adverse Weather Alert, Yellow Level, has been issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.
The alert will take effect from 5pm Thursday to midday Friday and extends to Trinidad and Tobago and offshore areas.
“A tropical wave combined with relatively strong trade winds, is expected to impact weather conditions from this evening into tomorrow. Brisk, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely and can be accompanied by gusty winds.
“Some gusts may exceed 55 km/h.”
The Met Office warned that strong gusts may displace unsecured outdoor objects, cause weak trees or branches to fall and lead to choppy seas.
In the event of heavy downpours, localized street flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas.
The public is urged to take precautions by securing objects and avoiding flood-prone areas and routes.
The public is urged to continue to monitor updates from the TTMS.
