Armed suspects killed in police-involved shooting

Two men are dead following a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in Sou Sou Lands, Tobago on Monday.

According to police reports, around 6:08 pm, a team of officers attached to Shirvan Road Police Station intelligence team and the Criminal Investigations Department received information regarding armed men wanted in connection with reports of several shootings. In response, a party of officers proceeded to a guest house located in Sou Sou Lands.

Upon arrival, the team entered the apartment and identified themselves as police officers, following which two men, armed with firearms, pointed their weapons in the direction of the officers.

Believing their lives to be in imminent danger, the officers in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, fired their weapons in the direction of the men, injuring both.

The officers retrieved the firearms and immediately rendered aid to the men. Both men were conveyed to the Scarborough General Hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The two firearms, an AR-15 rifle with 29 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and a revolver with four rounds of .38 ammunition were rendered safe and seized.
