Backlog Of Prisoners Seeking Pardon

The Mercy Committee of Trinidad and Tobago has been inactive for some years now and there is a substantial backlog of requests by prisoners seeking pardon from the President.

The Minister of National Security, Stuart Young, revealed this fact at the launch of the 2019 Preparation for Release Programme at the Chapel of the Maximum Security prison in Arouca on Wednesday.

Minister Young assured the prisoners that their pleas have been heard and the Committee should be meeting at least once a month from now on.

The Minister also said that the prison in Tobago is atrocious and needs immediate attention.

He says the Prime Minister has given the all clear for UDeCOTT to purchase land at a suitable site which has already been chosen.
