Boy, 8, drowns during rescue mission with parents

An eight-year-old boy drowned when the pirogue he was in overturned in Chaguaramas on Sunday evening during a rescue mission.

His parents and the vessel’s captain survived the incident as people from on a nearby vessel rescued them.

The child identified as Kaden Sandy was a Mucurapo Boys RC School pupil.

Police reports stated that around 7:18 p.m., Kaden was with his parents, Jules Sandy, 42, and Abigail Jones, 38, as well as the vessel’s owner, Richard Ragbir, when the boat overturned.

Kaden drowned, while they managed to rescue the others and transported them to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas.

Police said the family was en route to assist another vessel near Centipede Island, which had been experiencing mechanical issues when tragedy struck.
