The Psychiatric Hospital of Caracas began to provide specialized care to people with addiction to technology, an increasingly common mental disorder in Venezuela.

Neptalí Tovar, director of this health center, told the newspaper Latest News that excessive use of electronic devices and dependence on the Internet are seriously affecting children, young people and older adults.

This hospital, founded more than 132 years ago, offers services to treat various addictions, including those related to the compulsive use of devices.

«Many parents and representatives think that buying the best devices and covering the need for Internet access of their children or representatives keeps them calm, but they do not take into account that They are not under supervision of the spaces they visit and they do not have the necessary maturity to process the messages they receive,” Tovar warned.

Furthermore, he mentioned that older adults, when left alone or inactive, They can also become dependent on screens, which affects your emotional well-being.

It is stated that the Caracas Psychiatric Hospital has a multiple addictions service that ranges from alcoholism problems and consumption of psychotropic substances to the excessive use of technology.
