Casla Institute requests arrest warrant against Maduro from the ICC

The Casla Institute requested this Wednesday from the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, that emits arrest warrants against Nicolás Maduro and other high-ranking officials of his government, considering them responsible for crimes against humanity in Venezuela.

She noted that widespread systematic repression, persecution, intimidation, arbitrary detentions, torture, rape and any other form of sexual violence have not ceased in Venezuela.

«As of today, there are more than 2,500 people detained, most of them, They have been subjected to temporary enforced disappearances, physical and psychological torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, intimidation, threats and, in several cases, the arrest of family members and close friends, and in most cases, the DGCIM, the SEBIN, the PNB and the GNB have intervened,” the institute indicated in a press release.

He believes that this shows that the Venezuelan regime is not willing to stop the repression, but rather to unleash their “fury” against the civilian population and the Venezuelan political leadership for the results against the government in the presidential elections of July 28.

Casla Institute requests arrest warrants against Venezuelan intelligence officials

In July, the Casla Institute asked the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against four high-ranking officials of Venezuelan intelligence and police forces.

Those named belong to the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence, the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service and the Bolivarian National Police.

The request is based on Article 58 of the Rome Statute, which allows the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber to order arrests if there is sufficient evidence that a crime under its jurisdiction has been committed.

The organization argues that these individuals have committed serious crimes and that their arrest is necessary to prevent them from committing further crimes or related crimes.

He says he has multiple cases of complaints from victims, family members and witnesses who accuse these officials of systematic repression and persecution.

“The Casla Institute has several files with multiple cases of complaints from victims, family members and witnesses who have accused and pointed out these people directly, as part of the systematic repression and persecution that the Venezuelan State carries out against the civilian and military population,” it says.

The allegations include arbitrary arrests, torture, sexual violence and political persecution. According to the institute, these crimes continue to be committed.
