‘Chemical dosing issues’

  • Dec, Sun, 2024

There has been a cutback in production at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant which is affecting nearly 40 communities across the central and southwest Trinidad.

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) said yesterday some areas may be experiencing low pressure while others may not have water at all.

The plant, which is owned and operated by the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (DESALCOTT) normally supplies WASA with 40 million gallons of water per day (mgd), however, this has been reduced to 36 mgd, due to “chemical dosing issues”.

WASA said it is continuing to liaise with Desalcott regarding the situation and will provide a further update subsequently.

Among the areas affected include Caroni, Warrenville, Cunupia, Chaguanas, Caparo, Chase Village, Couva, Point Lisas, California, Claxton Bay, Plaisance Park, Pointe a Pierre, San Fernando, Vistabella and Marabella.

WASA yesterday advised customers that a truck-borne supply of water is available to people living in the communities affected.

The cutback in production comes nearly two weeks after the Point Lisas Desalination Plant was down for maintenance and also had to cut back on water production.
