Communist Party of Venezuela calls for civic action to restore the Constitution

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) called on citizens to undertake civic action to restore the validity of the Constitution, as it considers that the government and State institutions violate that text, according to statements by the leadership of the formation released this Tuesday .

“We propose to the Venezuelan people the need to strengthen the processes of organization, mobilization and struggle to restore the validity of the Constitution,” said Óscar Figuera, general secretary of the PCV, who represents the traditional and majority side of the party, intervened by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) since August 2023.

“In the face of a flagrant violation of the Constitution, what remains is the civic, democratic, open action of our people demanding their rights,” he continued.

These statements respond to the decision of the Supreme Court to reject requests for review of the validation of the result of the presidential elections of July 28, which has been indicated as fraudulent by the majority opposition.

The TSJ “produces a new legal blow against the rights of the Venezuelan people (…), we are facing a ruling that is part of the conspiracy of the established power against popular sovereignty,” he said.

Figuera believes it is necessary to “promote the construction of broad and unitary spaces in the social movement and on the political front” to demand the restitution of the Constitution, citing the article of the Magna Carta that obliges Venezuelans to collaborate in the reestablishment of this framework. legal.

“Because everything indicates that the government and the institutions of the State are acting with another Constitution, not only are they violating the Constitution, but their actions, including those of the TSJ, indicate to us that they are acting with a different Constitution, which we do not know,” he pointed out.

The PCV also demanded the “immediate release of all prisoners for fighting”, in reference to the more than 2,400 Venezuelans who – according to the Executive – were detained in the context of the crisis unleashed after the elections, some of them in street protests.
