Concern in the opposition over Edmundo González’s relationship with Eudoro González
Members of the Venezuelan opposition around María Corina Machado, from the Democratic Unity Roundtable, as well as those in Madrid, are concerned by the relationship of the Unitarian candidate Edmundo González with people linked to Chavismo.
Sources consulted by the newspaper ABC from Spain indicated that the departure of the opposition member from Venezuela to Spain was manipulated by the Chavista regime.
“Chavismo knew that Cuban Intelligence knew about the personal relationship and friendship of former deputy Eudoro González Dellán with Edmundo González, and Miraflores used him to convince him of the need and urgency of his departure from Caracas because his life and that of his family were in danger,” said the sources, who added that both Machado and the MUD were unaware of these attempts.
Eudoro González Dellán has had extensive business ties with Chavismo since its inception and lives in Madrid, where he also has businesses and is accused of having acted as a double agent between Chavismo and Edmundo González himself, the media reports.
“What worries the opposition in Caracas is Edmundo’s relationship not only with Eudoro, but also with his brother Leonardo, who has been very influential in financing Chavismo over the last 25 years,” they added.
The hopeful part for the opposition is that itThey are convinced that the Maduro regime made a mistake in trying to force Edmundo González out. “He thought that his exile from Venezuela would cast him into oblivion, into silence, in Spain. It turns out that it backfired,” they say ironically, and point out that Edmundo has had “an impressive receptivity and acceptance in the political world and in Spanish society.”
Despite this scenario, the Venezuelan opposition is convinced that González must be helped and supported. For this reason, they admit that they have had to promote the beginning of a media and political tour that has led him to meet with the president of the Spanish government, former presidents González and Aznar, as well as with Alberto Núñez Feijóo (PP) and Aitor Esteban (PNV).
They fear a breakup between Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez
These actions They seek to prevent a fracture between the Venezuela led by Machado in Caracas and the one led by Edmundo in exile.since there are already almost 8 million Venezuelans outside the country.
“María Corina was not informed of Edmundo’s departure from Caracas and that bothered her because she found out at the last minute. But she is clear about it, and she knows that the problem is not Edmundo, but getting rid of Nicolás Maduro. Nobody is going to argue with Edmundo, but he has to receive the message that he has to take care of his relationships and not let himself be influenced by people who directly or indirectly come from Chavismo,” the sources said.
“The various sectors of the opposition are clear that the objective is to maintain unity and the interest in getting rid of Nicolás Maduro. The important thing is to send a message to Edmundo González: this type of relationship is not good for the unity of the opposition,” they said.
