Convergence calls for the release of Biagio Pilieri

The Venezuelan political party Convergencia demanded this Saturday the release of its national coordinator, Biagio Pilieriafter a month of being detained after participating in a protest called by the main opposition coalition, Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), against the official result of the presidential elections on July 28.

«A month ago our national coordinator, Biagio Pilieri, was unjustly detained. 30 days in which your rights have been violated. “30 days without his freedom, 30 days without being able to see him,” the group said in a message published in X.

Likewise, he indicated that he will not rest until “to see him again where he should be: free, with his family, friends and colleagues.”

The formation added that throughout Venezuela “prayers” have been maintained in favor of the release of the former deputy.

What happened to Biagio Pilieri of the Convergencia party?

On September 5, his wife, María Livia Vasile, denounced that Pilieri He was accused of five crimes, including “terrorism”. At the same time he explained that he was presented at a hearing without the presence of his “trusted lawyers.”

«My husband was presented last Friday, August 30, without the presence of his trusted lawyers, with the assistance of a public defender. He was charged with five crimes: conspiracy, criminal association, instigation of hatred, terrorism and treason.«, noted Vasile in X.

Pilieri was arrested on August 28 after participating in a protest called by the PUD, in rejection of the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that validated the controversial reelection of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections, according to opponents on the social network.

The opposition indicated that the former deputy was captured after two vehicles and two motorcycles allegedly chased him through Caracas.

One day after his arrest, Convergencia reported that officials from the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) raided Biagio Pilieri’s residence, in the state of Yaracuy (west), without offering further details of the police operation.
