CoP: Police Camouflage Wear Not In Violation Of The Laws

Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, says he and officers of specialised units of the police service have not violated the police uniform.

The Commissioner was responding to a newspaper article stating that he was in violation of the country’s laws regarding the use of camouflage wear.

He also questioned whether General Secretary of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Anand Ramesar, was speaking on behalf of the association or on his own behalf.

Mr. Griffith said the Association is well aware that certain units in the Police Service have worn camouflage for decades. He said, too, it’s the same association that has submitted requests for digital camouflage uniforms to be worn.

Commissioner Griffith said Mr. Ramesar’s comments are mischievous and noted that the Police Uniform Committee also recommended this uniform.

In a statement, he said, “let them focus on what I wear, my focus is to secure the country”.
