Cops swoop down on drag racers in Heartland Plaza

A series of traffic operations in Chaguanas and Arima over the weekend led to multiple arrests and dozens of tickets being written.

From 9 pm on October 12th to 3 am on October 13th, officers conducted searches at Soogrim Trace and Nasaloo Ramayan Road, where around 300 people gathered at Heartland Plaza.

According to the officers, some of those gathered were drag racing, resulting in 81 tickets for various traffic violations. Five people were arrested, including two for Driving Under the Influence and three for driving without a permit and insurance.

In a separate exercise yesterday, between 6 pm and 10 pm, another operation targeted the Pinto Road Police Post and Arima Police Districts. Four more individuals were arrested:

  ●   A 33-year-old from Agua Santa for driving without a permit.

  ●   A 21-year-old from Santa Rosa Heights for possession of marijuana.

  ●   A 27-year-old from Carenage for driving without a permit.

  ●   A 24-year-old from Santa Rosa Heights for driving without a permit and insurance, as well as dangerous driving.

  ●   A 21-year-old from Santa Rosa Heights was also found with 91 grams of marijuana.

Officers issued three tickets for driving without insurance, not wearing a seatbelt, and lacking an inspection sticker.
