The lawyer for Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia said on Wednesday that the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, said that “there will be no criminal prosecution” against the wife of the political leader, Mercedes de González Urrutia, 75 years old, who remains in his residence.

“The citizen prosecutor told me (…) that about her There will not be (…) any type of action that violates the rights, physical integrity, freedom, of Mrs. Mercedes (…). I hope and pray that he keeps his word,” said the opposition lawyer, José Vicente Haro, to the media after holding a meeting with Saab.

He also reported that “no decision was issued regarding a search or visit to the formal residence” of Edmundo González, who is subject to an arrest warrant for the crimes of “usurpation of functions” and “forgery of public documents,” among others, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

The lawyer added that the attorney general was informed that The opponent has not been at his residence “since August 1st” for “reasons of security and personal integrity, and to protect their freedom.”

Investigation against Edmundo Gonzalez

Haro He handed Saab a document signed by the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD)in which respect is requested for “the presumption of innocence” and “procedural guarantees” that – the lawyer assures – “were not present” in three summons issued by the institution, which is investigating the anti-Chavez figure.

The investigation is related to the publication of a website, in which the anti-Chavez supporters claim to have uploaded “83.5% of the electoral records” collected by witnesses and members of the polling station on election night, to support their claim of fraud in the presidential elections of July 28.

The PUD released these records, which the Executive calls “false,” after the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the elections, which has been questioned by numerous countries, some of which support that Edmundo González won by a wide margin.
