Havana, Sept 3 (ACN) The president of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo welcomed Bridgid Annisette-George, speaker of Trinidad-Tobago House of Representatives, who is on an official visit to Cuba.

“It’s a real pleasure to welcome you and your delegation to the seat of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power. This is a visit we’ve eagerly expected,” said Lazo while meeting the Trinidadian top parliamentarian.

During bilateral talks, Lazo recalled remarks by Cuban Revolution leader, Army General Raul Castro that “we share a common history of colonialism, slavery and struggle for freedom, independence and development, which is the melting pot which forged our cultures.”

Lazo recalled that Trinidad and Tobago was one of the first four Caribbean states which in a sovereign, valiant and honorable attitude defied US pressures and establish diplomatic relations with Cuba over 50 years ago. Since then, our bilateral links have been marked by friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.

He stressed the need to further boost bilateral cooperation and strengthen inter-parliamentary bonds, while defending Caribbean integration from regional and international parliaments. With this regard, Lazo said that Annisette-George’s visit will contribute to strengthen the historic bonds of friendship between Cuba and Trinidad-Tobago.

The Cuban top parliamentarian also extended his gratitude to Trinidad-Tobago for its support of Cuba’s struggle for the end of the US economic blockade and against the inclusion of the island nation in the US list of states sponsors of terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Trinidadian visitor said it is an honor to be in Havana just few days ahead of the 62nd anniversary of Trinidad-Tobago independence.
