It is with a heavy heart that we extend heartfelt condolences to Ms Cynthia Alfred’s family, friends, and all who were touched by her remarkable life.

Our country has lost an exceptional leader and a trailblazer. Ms Alfred’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of the people she served so passionately.

As Tobago’s first female deputy chief secretary, Ms Alfred paved the way for future generations of women leaders in our nation.

Her unwavering dedication and commitment to the people of Tobago, from 2001-2009 in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), is a testament to her strength, resilience, and love for her community.

Further, she also served in the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago as a People’s National Movement (PNM) opposition senator from 1997 to 2000.

She later became a THA assemblyman for the Bacolet/Mt St George district, having won the 2001 THA election.

Her voice was one of advocacy and empowerment, and she will always be remembered as a woman of vision and purpose who fought tirelessly for the progress and well-being of her people.

Ms Alfred’s contributions to the political and social landscape of Trinidad and Tobago have left an indelible mark, and she will be deeply missed.

May you find comfort in knowing that her legacy continues to inspire and uplift us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of grief.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
