WEST Indies cricketer Joshua Da Silva will be hosting the official registration for the grassroots cricket programme for his academy—the Joshua Da Silva Academy (JDS)—today, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Saints Cricket Institute Indoor Centre, at CIC Ground, St Clair.

With over 300 children already pre-registered, the programme will be geared towards boys and girls ages five to 12.

Former Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Andre Lawrence, who is one of the co-ordinators for the grassroots programme, along with Aaron Kurbanali, said the programme is focused on working with the next generation of cricketers, introducing them to the game and keeping them excited as they learn the game.

Lawrence said their is no set limit on the number of children they will take into the programme which features weekly sessions that will run to December. The JDS is also planning to have an intermediate programme for children ages 12-16 and an advanced programme for the 17-21 age-group.

“As far as I can tell, Josh is the only active regional cricket that has launched a cricket academy,” said Lawrence.

“This is an excellent gesture by Josh who will also take an active part in the programme based on is availability and we are also encouraging sponsors to come on board to be part of the programme,” he added.
