DENBIGH HIGH’S under-16 team made a positive start in the ISSA 2024 rural schoolgirls netball competition with a big 45-6 win over Kemps Hill High in Zone F.

The Winston Nevers-coached girls who had been very busy during the summer, playing in the summer league and the recent Island Vibes Series against the Trinidad and Tobago under-16 team, sent a very strong message to their rivals.

Led by national under-16 goalshooter Crisade Wignall, Denbigh produced some good all-round play. Wignall who was among the stars at the Island Vibes tournament marshalled her team well as they eased to victory.

The 14 year-old Wignall was bang on target from the opening whistle as she helped her team to rush into an 8-2 first quarter lead before they closed out the half at 23-3.

The Denbigh team overwhelmed their rivals in the third quarter at both ends of the court as they scored 13 unanswered goals to race into a 36-3 lead going into the final quarter. Kemps Hill got three goals in the final quarter, but Denbigh scored another nine to end the game 45-6.

Playing in Zone I, Titchfield High and Port Antonio High scored two big wins in the under-16 section on the same day. Titchfield blew away Robert Lightbourne High 59-1 while Port Antonio dismissed Wycliffe Martin High 24-3.
