Diosdado Cabello says that justice will determine arrests in Venezuela regardless of what the US says
Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said Wednesday that justice will determine who “should be detained and prosecuted” regardless of what the U.S. thinks. In this way, he responds to U.S. Senator Rick Scott, who warned that there will be “strong consequences” for any “damage” to opponents Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado.
“If tomorrow the justice system decides that whoever should be arrested, he should be prosecuted, he will be prosecuted. Our justice system is not dependent on the United States,” said the Chavista during a demonstration in Caracas to celebrate the controversial re-election of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections on July 28.
The first vice president of the ruling PSUV party also said that, contrary to what they “would like” in the North American country, Venezuela has “a justice system independent of imperialism.”

On Wednesday, the Republican senator warned, through X, that “if Maduro, Diosdado or anyone dares to harm María Corina or President-elect González, there will be strong consequences,” which he did not explain.
In response, Cabello said that the US Congress “is full of very stupid people” who believe they can “give orders” to the Venezuelan authorities.
“They cannot put their hands in here, they cannot put their noses in here, they cannot give their opinions because we will always give them an answer,” the minister added.
Despite the announcements made by the National Electoral Council (CNE), the main opposition coalition – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – insists that González Urrutia won the presidential election, a claim that it supports with 83.5% of the minutes issued in the voting and obtained – it claims – through witnesses and table members, described as “false” by the ruling party.
Several authorities, including Maduro, have called for imprisonment for González Urrutia and Machado, his main ally.
