Domestic worker and her boyfriend murdered journalist in Altamira

A domestic worker and her boyfriend were implicated in the murder of Mercedes Herrera, 40-year-old journalist, on September 30 at his home in Quinta Madrigal, in Altamira.

Frenyerlin Carolina Ortiz, who worked occasionally at the residence, was arrested on Monday after investigations into the case.

The investigations revealed, according to a report by journalist Román Camacho, that Ortiz allowed her boyfriend, identified as Keiner, to enter the home.

Months before the crime, the subject had done gardening work at Herrera’s residence and it was at that moment when they planned everything.

The day of the murder, The journalist contacted Ortiz to clean the house. Upon arrival, the employee left a service door open so that her partner could enter and carry out the robbery.

Once inside, Keiner subdued Mercedes, tied her hands and demanded that she and the woman reveal where she had kept the money. The victim told them that he had $1,000 in cash in a drawer.

After taking the money and several valuables, the man said it was necessary to kill her to prevent her from ratting them out.

Using a bag, They suffocated her and then tied the bag to her face with a rope. They later moved the body to the visiting room, where they covered it with sheets and bags before escaping.

During the escape, Herrera’s phone fell in a public transport van. A man who picked up the device answered an incoming call from the victim’s relatives.

On October 3, Cicpc officials found the journalist’s body. And on October 7, they managed to arrest Ortiz in La Dolorita, while the authorities search for Keiner, who is a fugitive.
