Double murder recorded in Penal

Another double murder has been reported in Trinidad.

The latest incident claimed the lives of 45-year-old Mario De Leon and 55-year-old Gerald Felix in Penal last night.

De Leon was a bar owner and lived along Winter Street in Penal.

Felix worked as a plumber and resided along Dookie Street in Penal.

According to police reports, at 7:10pm yesterday, both men were standing in front of Felix’s home, when a stranger approached them.

The suspect reportedly had a hoodie over his head covering his facial features.

He pulled out a firearm and without warning, shot at both men, then fled the scene on foot.

Residents heard the explosions and found both men on the ground.

At the time, De Leon was unresponsive, while Felix was still breathing.

Both men had been shot multiple times.

Felix was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his head and chest. He succumbed to his wounds around 7:50pm that night.

A team of officers from the Southern Division as well as the Homicide Bureau led by Supt Cumberbatch, Supt Douglas, Insp Harripersad, Sgt Siew, W/Sgt Monsegue and Sgt Hanoomansingh, among others, responded.

Crime scene investigators found and seized 12 spent 9mm shells at the scene of the shooting.

One projectile was also recovered.

Police also noted that vehicles that were parked along the roadway appeared to have sustained bullet damage.

No other injuries were reported in this incident.

Police have no official motive for the killings, up to 9 am today.
