The driver seen in a viral video, switching to the passenger seat after he was involved in an accident where he almost hit another vehicle in Maraval, has been arrested and charged.

This was confirmed yesterday by TTPS Road Safety Coordinator Sgt. Brent Batson.

Rajin Ramkissoon, of Saddle Road, Maraval, was arrested and charged by officers of the Maraval Police Station.

According to Batson, enquiries revealed Ramkissoon was driving although he did not have a driver’s permit or vehicular insurance.

After the cars came to a stop, the motorist Ramkisson almost collided with recorded himself asking Ramkissoon, “What happened there.”

Ramkissoon responded by asking where the driver of the car went and when he was told he was the driver, he denied it.

Guardian Media understands a report was made on August 12, the same night of the accident and Ramkissoon was immediately arrested. He was later charged for driving without a permit or insurance.

Contacted yesterday, Arrive Alive president Sharon Inglefield condemned reckless drivers, who she believes have no respect or real love for their passengers and other road users.

“It’s a slap our face, it’s a slap in the face of every good law-abiding citizen in Trinidad and Tobago,” she said.

She appealed to the dangerous drivers to “think of their families”.

According to the Arrive Alive website, there have been 66 road traffic accidents for the year so far and 70 people have lost their lives.
