Edmundo González also does not attend the third summons from the Prosecutor’s Office, despite the threat of arrest

Venezuela’s main opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, did not attend the Prosecutor’s Office headquarters on Friday morning, which He is being investigated for publishing data on the Internet that would prove his victory in the June 28 elections, which is why he risks being arrested by the Chavista authorities now.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office had summoned González for the third time this Friday at 10:00 a.m. (local time), to explain his alleged involvement in crimes of usurpation of functions, falsification of documents, incitement to disobedience, computer crime, criminal association and conspiracy. If he did not attend, it had already warned that it would understand that there was a “risk of flight” and “risk of obstruction” of the investigations.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado had announced on Thursday that, despite the explicit threat, “of course” González would not attend and would remain “protected.” In a press conference with Spanish media, Machado denounced that Venezuela lives under a “totalitarian” system and expressed fear that Chavista forces could search the former diplomat’s home.

The opposition has released documents to prove that González was the winner of the July 28 presidential election against President Nicolás Maduro, backed by the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), controlled by Chavismo.
