Edmundo González: “Every day that passes, our voice grows stronger and our fight, firmer”

The standard-bearer of the majority opposition in Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, said on Wednesday that the fight to assert the victory he claims to have obtained in the elections of July 28 is today “stronger,” despite the fact that President Nicolás Maduro remains in powerafter being declared the winner by the electoral body, with the subsequent endorsement of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

“I know that these last thirty days have been hard, but they have also been a test of our unity and determination. Every day that passes, our voice grows stronger and our fight, firmer,” said the standard-bearer of the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), in X.

He believes that Venezuelans are “making history” after having demonstrated “that sovereignty resides untransferably” in the vote, since the PUD published “83.5% of the electoral records” on a website to reinforce its claim of fraud, documents that have the support of countries and international organizations.

The world knows the truth

“We have made clear to the world the truth of what happened: the Venezuelan people triumphed overwhelmingly. Venezuelans decided to change in peace and live better, we will ensure that their will is respected. We will achieve an orderly transition, in peace and with guarantees for all, because the truth will prevail,” he said.

González Urrutia, who has been in hiding since July 30, posted the message just as her main ally, opposition leader María Corina Machado, was expected to lead a demonstration in Caracas against the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld Maduro’s reelection, one month before the July 28 presidential election.

The PUD and numerous countries have demanded that the National Electoral Council (CNE) publish the disaggregated results of the presidential elections to confirm the victory of Chavismo, something that was supposed to happen a week after the vote but which the electoral body omitted after having reported that it suffered a massive cyber attack.

Today, too, the Chavistas have called for demonstrations in all regions of Venezuela to celebrate the controversial victory of Maduro, who has the support of all institutions, including the Armed Forces.
