Maria Corina Machado, opposition leader and coordinator of the Vente Venezuela party, reiterated that Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia will return to Venezuela and recalled that the opposition candidate and his entourage suffered constant pressure and threats from the government of Nicolas Maduro, which led him to accept asylum in Spain.

“The regime did everything to make Edmundo leave, threatening him and putting pressure on his entourage in a brutal and cruel way. The regime is becoming weaker and more isolated every day. Venezuelans are determined to move forward until popular sovereignty is upheld and Edmundo González is sworn in as president of Venezuela,” Machado said during an interview with the American channel. «It will come at the right time»

Machado stressed that they are working in a coordinated manner to defend democracy and the results of the elections held on July 28, when the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner with 51% of the votes, an event that was endorsed by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) even though the government did not present the minutes.

«Edmund will come at the right time and be assured “Maduro must understand that his best option is to accept the terms of a negotiated transition,” the opposition leader stressed.

The opposition reported that González Urrutia was the winner of the presidential elections with more than 60% of the votes. According to reports from Unidad, the opposition leader won with 7,303,480 votes against 3,316,142 in favor of the official candidate, Nicolás Maduro.

María Corina Machado asserted that González is “the elected president of Venezuela” while various organizations have spoken out against the actions of the security forces of the government of Nicolás Maduro.

After González Urrutia left the country, various media outlets speculated about the possibility that Machado would accept asylum from another nation. However, María Corina Machado ruled out that possibility and is grateful for the support of the countries that did not recognize the results imposed by the CNE on July 28.

The opposition leader said she will not leave Venezuela despite suffering the separation from her children and noted that they are working for a country in which children and adolescents feel proud of their country.

«It’s been many years and since they were very little they began to suffer the separation and my absence at very important moments of their life, I feel very guilty as a mother and I hope that one day they will forgive me. and feel that it was really worth it to leave all our children a country where they feel proud to be Venezuelan,” the opposition leader concluded.
