Elderly man shoots relative
A Couva man was shot by a close male relative on Saturday as he was getting ready to leave for work.
The 39-year-old victim of Carolina Village, Couva, was standing outside around 7:30 am when he was approached by the elderly man.
It was alleged the suspect pointed a gun at the victim and fired once.
As the victim ran into his home to take cover, the suspect walked back to his house, which is located approximately 100 feet away.
The suspect was later arrested and taken to the Couva Police Station for questioning.
TSTT supervisor shot waiting for a friend
A TSTT supervisor was shot in the shoulder on Friday night as he waited for a friend in San Juan.
Police said at 11.55 pm on August 16, the victim was seated in the rear passenger seat of his friend’s green Lancer along Weekes Trace, San Juan.
The 27-year-old of Sunshine Avenue, San Juan, claimed a silver Nissan Tiida drove up and a man came out and opened fire on him.
The gunman then got back into the waiting vehicle which sped off.
The victim’s friend found him bleeding from a wound to the right shoulder.
A report was made at the San Juan Police Station, following which the victim was taken for medical care.
Victim identifies attacker at hospital
A 39-year-old Mt Hope man who was robbed of his private car on Friday night by two bandits posing as passengers and stabbed managed to point out one of his attackers who was seeking treatment at hospital.
Police said the victim was plying his Nissan Tiida around 11.15 pm on August 16, along Laventille Road, San Juan – when he picked up two men.
Upon reaching La Hoe Road, San Juan – the front seat passenger pointed a gun at him and they began to steal valuables from him.
He was ordered out of the car and other men joined the suspects.
The driver was beaten and dragged to a nearby house and tied up, he was also stabbed by one of the suspects.
He managed to free himself and ran off.
The victim flagged down officers on patrol and was taken to hospital.
Officers recovered his car abandoned.
Meanwhile, officers assigned to the San Juan Police Station responded to a report of a shooting around 9 pm Saturday near Laventille Road, San Juan.
The victim had been taken to the EWMSC by a passerby for treatment.
Officers decided to conduct a welfare check on the kidnap victim who had been hospitalised the night before – they were informed that the victim recognised the man who was shot as one of the men who had robbed and kidnapped him the day before.
A guard was later assigned to the suspect’s room.
Enquiries are continuing.
