  • Dec, Wed, 2024

Government officials harassed and threatened the six opponents who are asylum in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, which is in the custody of Brazil after the breakdown of relations between the administration of Javier Milei and Nicolás Maduro.

A publication by the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, on her Instagram account, denounces that more than 20 agents showed up at the diplomatic headquarters in five patrol cars and civilian vehicles. Aggressively, they threatened the asylum seekers with breaking into the building and generated “anxiety and terror in the surrounding area.”

“These actions of the regime intensify a state of siege in this area of Caracas, against the asylum seekers and the neighboring houses, all victims of the siege and violence by these organizations,” Machado expressed on the social network.

He recalled that the Argentine Embassy is still without electricity service after the government stole the fuses. It also does not have water service.

“The regime has turned the diplomatic residence into a prison, in front of the eyes of the world, violating all international agreements. This is the same terror that they have used against citizens, activists and all those who fight for truth and freedom,” denounced Machado, who made another call to Argentina and Brazil so that they address the situation “with the seriousness it deserves and dedicate all their efforts to achieving safe passage.”

“Likewise, we ask these governments, together with the diplomatic corps accredited in Venezuela, to guarantee protection and essential services for asylum seekers,” he concluded.

The six asylum-seekers completed 10 days without electricity on Tuesday, after their electricity was cut off on November 23 as part of the growing siege by the Maduro government.

In a video shared on social networks by Magalli Meda, one of the asylum seekers, the residence was seen completely dark at 5:00 am this Tuesday.

To keep the food in the refrigerator, Machado’s six collaborators use an electric plant that they turn on for a few hours of the day and night, according to the Venezuelan Command.
