Relatives of a man killed in D’Abadie on Friday morning are calling on the police to offer them the same treatment given to Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and apprehend his killers.

Speaking with Guardian Media at his Red Hill, D’Abadie home, Brian Bain said he felt “less than” after his stepson Jayden Moore was killed and no one was held days after.

Moore, 19, was shot dead after a gunman tried to steal his Nissan Tiida on Friday morning around 1.40 am. He was taken to the Arima General Hospital, where he was declared dead.

On September 17, Deyalsingh, 66, was sitting outside Nyabinghi Bar at the corner of Abercromby and King Streets, St Joseph, at 4.55 pm when two men walked up. One of them placed a gun to his head and demanded that he hand over his gold bera.

A day after the bera was stolen, DCP Suzette Martin warned the culprits, saying, “We’re coming for you,” and hours later two men were held in relation to the robbery.

Bain said every crime should be given such a swift response. Comparing the two responses, he said he feels less than Deyalsingh.

“It makes you feel less than a citizen. It makes you feel like you have no value. It makes you feel like the Member of Parliament and those above have special attention and privileges. It is not right; it is not a good feeling at all.”

Bain said despite his feelings, he has little hope in the judicial system. Bain described his stepson as a fun-loving teen who “would get on your last nerve.”

He recalled his first meeting with Moore as a child when he played football with a competing football club. Moore was a formidable midfielder for the Police FC and Caledonia AIA football clubs.

Moore was one of three men killed in D’Abadie on Friday.

The other two were killed minutes apart from each other at Buildings Five and 11 in Maloney Gardens, D’Abadie.

In the first incident, police reported that an unidentified man was found dead after residents heard gunshots at Building Five around 10.45 pm. The report added that the man was on the third floor when gunshots were heard, and the deceased was found bleeding.

Emergency Health Services were called, and the man was declared dead on arrival at the Arima General Hospital.

About 15 minutes later, Cyril Greaves, 30, of Building 11 in Maloney Gardens was murdered. Police said Greaves, who also had an address at Eastern Quarry, Laventille, was found dead after residents reported hearing gunshots in the area. Greaves was shot twice in the head.

Police could not give a motive for the two killings or if they were connected.

“I am saying if it was 400 and something COVID deaths, or monkeypox (Mpox) deaths, or dengue, you would have seen a heavy emphasis from the Government to get things under control. Look at the pandemic; death is death. All deaths are important, so why don’t the people in charge do what they need to do to get the country in order?”
