Fatima blanks Saints 2-nil to maintain SSFL lead

Jahaem Bailey and Caden Trestrail scored a goal each to lead defending champions Fatima College to a 2-0 win over long-time rivals St Mary’s College to stay three points clear at the top of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Boys Premier Division at St Mary’s College Ground, St Clair, yesterday.

With the win, their fifth in six matches, the Hutson ‘BarberCharles-coached Fatima improved to 16 points, three clear of 2022 winners, St Benedict’s College, who used strikes from Cameron Burke and Ethan Trotman to hold off Malick Secondary, who got a late reply from Josante Duncan in a 2-1 result.

Reigning national Inter-Col champions is a point further back in the third spot on the 16-team table after eking out a 1-0 win over East Mucurapo thanks to a Vaughn Clement item, while Arima North Secondary dropped two valuable points in a goalless draw with Queen’s Royal College to slip to fourth spot with ten points, one ahead of San Juan North Secondary, who got a first-half hat-trick from Jadiel Joseph in the 19th, 33rd, and 37th minutes to whip Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School 3-0 at San Juan.

In the other matches yesterday, Speyside Secondary got a double from Riquelme Phillips to edge past Trinity College East 2-1, and St Augustine Secondary and Signal Hill Secondary battled to an entertaining 3-3 draw in a battle of promoted teams.
