Fenasipruv and Central ASI reject false news about alleged recalculation of social benefits for Venezuelan retirees

  • Sep, Thu, 2024

Faced with the proliferation of what they describe as fake news on social media about an alleged recalculation of social benefits, the National Federation of Unions of University Professionals of Venezuela (Fenasipruv) and Central ASI rejected the fact that retired Venezuelan workers “continue to be deluded with the hope of one day receiving pending payments from the State.”

In a statement, the unionists condemned the lack of an official position on these alleged measures because they “constitute a flagrant disdain” towards those who for decades provided an integral service to the country.

“Any remuneration resulting from this process must be paid directly into the personal account of each beneficiary, thus safeguarding transparency and the prompt reflection of what is legitimately due to them,” they said.

They also stressed that once the deposit into the respective university accounts is confirmed, the information must be disseminated clearly and accurately through official channels.

In this regard, they denounced the spread of fake news on social media in recent days about an alleged payment of social benefits.

“Not only are our retirees and pensioners being cruelly deceived, but they are also perpetuating uncertainty and disillusionment about the possibility of a dignified livelihood.”

They condemned the lack of response from the OPSU despite the efforts of Fenasipruv and the Central Trabajadores ASI of Venezuela: “We will persevere in our claim with firmness and determination because social benefits are an inalienable right, not a favor granted at discretion.”

They urged the authorities to carry out, without further delay, a genuine indexed recalculation of social benefits, “adjusted to current inflation rates, which honors the trajectory and effort of each of the beneficiaries, ensuring a fair amount and timely distribution.”

FENASIPRUV INFORMS

Through this communication, issued with the authority granted by the union members at the national level, we address in a categorical and energetic manner an issue of unavoidable importance that concerns labor integrity and the due recognition of the rights of retired workers.

It is essential to emphasize the following:

1. To date, the absence of an official statement regarding the recalculation of social benefits constitutes a flagrant disdain towards those individuals who, after decades of honest service, yearn to receive fair compensation appropriate to their contribution.

2. Comprehensive information corresponding to each retired worker has been repeatedly transmitted to the University Sector Planning Office (OPSU) by the Human Resources and Labor Liabilities Departments of each relevant academic institution.

3. Any remuneration resulting from this process must be paid directly into the personal account of each beneficiary, thus safeguarding transparency and the prompt receipt of what is legitimately due to them.

4. Once the deposit into the respective university accounts is confirmed, the relevant information will be disseminated clearly and precisely by the corresponding entity or through the official channels designated for this purpose.

5. It is imperative to denounce the unfounded spread of fake news on social media about the recalculation and payment of benefits, which not only cruelly deceives our retirees and pensioners, but also perpetuates uncertainty and disillusionment about the possibility of a dignified livelihood.

6. Despite the tireless efforts of FENASIPRUV and the ASI Venezuela Workers’ Union to ensure the punctual fulfilment of the rights acquired by retirees, the lack of response by the OPSU with regard to the Organic Labour Law shows a clear failure to comply and requires immediate rectification. We will persevere in our claim with firmness and determination.

7. Social benefits represent an inalienable right, not a favor granted at discretion.

8. It is unacceptable to generate unrealistic expectations regarding benefits that have been systematically postponed by the State employer, making them illusory and insufficient even to cover basic needs in a context of overwhelming inflation.

9. Given the circumstances inherent to the dignity and respect for human work, it is essential to urge a genuine indexed recalculation of social benefits adjusted to current inflation rates, which honors the career and effort of each beneficiary, ensuring a fair amount and timely distribution.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, we reiterate our unwavering commitment to defending the interests of our retired workers, who deserve a welcome worthy of their years of dedication and sacrifice for the benefit of our universities.

We remain available for any additional questions, and await a prompt and satisfactory resolution to this pressing situation.
