Fisherman charged with sexual penetration, and sexual touching gets $200K bail
A 31-year-old fisherman was granted bail with a surety in the sum of $200,000 when he appeared at a North District High Court, charged with two counts of Sexual Touching and two counts of Sexual Penetration of a child, on Thursday 4 September 2024.
The accused is to report to the Sangre Grande Police Station every fortnight. He is to not have any contact with the victim directly or indirectly.
He is expected to reappear in court on June 17, 2025.
A statement from the Police Service reports that on several occasions between the period July 28 to August 22, 2024, the accused allegedly committed the offences at the victim’s home.
The matter was reported to the Sangre Grande Police Station on August 24, 2024, and the Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into the matter.
The accused was arrested on the same day the report was made. He was charged on Tuesday 3 September 2024.
Investigations were spearheaded by W/Superintendent (Ag) Powder, ASP (Ag) Seecharan, Insp (Ag). Ramkaran, and Corporal Hazzard of the Special Victims Unit.
