Four arrested as firearm seized, stolen vehicle recovered

Four individuals have been arrested, a firearm seized, and a stolen vehicle recovered during anti-crime operations conducted in the North-Central Division over the past 48 hours.

The Police Service says an anti-crime exercise was carried out in the North Central Division by officers from the Major Crimes Unit, between 11 pm on September 10, and 4 am on September 11, 2024.

“During this operation, officers executed a warrant at an address in Pasea, Tunapuna, where they seized a homemade shotgun along with 10 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition,” a TTPS release reports.  “A 46-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the find.”

The TTPS statement notes that two men—aged 20 and 22 years from Bregnon Park in D’Abadie—also were arrested during the exercise, for allegedly demanding money by menace.

Also on September 11, between 1 pm and 4 pm, officers from the Tunapuna Charge Room conducted a roving exercise, which involved visiting four bars in the area.  The TTPS says the officers were focusing on offences related to the Liquor Licence Act.

“During this exercise, a 40-year-old from Duncan Street, Port of Spain, was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon,” the Police Service confirmed.

And in a simultaneous roving exercise, officers from the North-Central Division Task Force (Area East), and the North-Central Division Emergency Response Patrol, received information that led them to Dunder Hill, Arouca.

At that location, the officers discovered a silver Nissan Y12 wagon with false registration plates. Further checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from the El Socorro area earlier that day.

The TTPS says the anti-crime operations were initiated by ACP Subero, and coordinated by Snr. Supt. Smith, Supt. Gift, ASP David, Insp. Pierre, Insp. Greene, and Insp. Beepot.

Enquiries into these matters are ongoing.
