Free UWI courses for 3,000 public servants
Approximately 3,000 public servants will now have access to free online courses at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
This was announced by the Ministry of Public Administration yesterday.
The opportunity will allow thousands of public servants to enrol in free, educational, accredited online courses that are being facilitated by lecturers at the St Augustine Campus for the term carded to begin in September and end in December this year.
In the first cohort, public servants from various levels across the public service, including junior staff, mid-level managers, and senior executives can express interest in registering for these online courses.
The subject areas include Human Resource and Public Sector Management, Business Communication, Social Services, Conflict Management, Digital Literacy, Monitoring and Evaluation, Events Management, and Policy Development.
The development of the Public Service Academy Learning and Development Programme for the public service comes on the heels of a Memorandum of Understanding which was signed on July 8 by Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Public Administration, Claudelle Mc Kellar, and Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Campus Principal of The University of the West Indies.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration, the historic agreement has enabled a framework for the identification and assessment of the learning and development needs of the public service; as well as the development and implementation of bespoke, demand-driven curricula to build the capacity of the Public Service and foster continuous improvements in service delivery.
It is hoped the initiative will significantly increase the capacity for the delivery of training courses for public servants, through the Public Service Academy (PSA), a Division of the Ministry of Public Administration.
The Ministry of Public Administration says it intends to collaborate with other tertiary institutions in the coming months to further build the employee training and development capacity of the public service.
